How does the Virgin Atlantic Flying Club status match work?

Virgin Atlantic matches the top or second tier of 12 listed airline programmes to Flying Club Gold or Silver. The listed programmes are The British Airways Club, Air Canada Aeroplan, Air India Flying Returns, American Airlines AAdvantage, Cathay Pacific Marco Polo, Emirates Skywards, Etihad Guest, Iberia Plus, Lufthansa Miles & More, Qatar Airways Privilege Club, South African Airways Voyager and United MileagePlus. You must be a Flying Club member and have a confirmed flight booked on Virgin Atlantic or a codeshare partner, paid for in money or Flying Club miles, with at least one flight on a Virgin Atlantic (VS) flight number. For Gold you need top-tier status and a Premium or Upper Class booking, and Economy bookings do not qualify for Gold. A top-tier member who books Economy is awarded Silver. For Silver you need second-tier status and a booking in Economy or higher. Send proof of your status, such as a photo or scan of your member card showing your full name, status level and expiry date, which must still be valid when you travel. Virgin Atlantic reviews the request, confirms by email and upgrades your status 72 hours before the qualifying flight. Matched status is valid for 12 months from the upgrade, and to retain it you earn 1,000 tier points for Gold or 400 for Silver in that period. The offer is not available if you received Flying Club Gold or Silver through a status match in the previous 5 years, or if you hold any level of membership with a SkyTeam partner airline. Virgin Atlantic can change or withdraw the offer at any time and approves or declines Gold and Silver at its discretion.

What should I know before applying?

Read in full on October 24, 2026, including the terms that open below the airline list. The page shows no end date and no last-updated date. The terms exclude anyone who holds any level of membership with a SkyTeam partner airline, for example a Flying Blue account. The excluded_alliance_members column carries that exclusion (skyteam) and the member offers and follow alerts read it, so a member with an account in any SkyTeam programme here is never shown or mailed this offer. The 5-year limit on an earlier Flying Club status match cannot be tested and stays in the terms. The page lists 12 programmes and rows are stored for the 8 this site tracks: Air India Flying Returns, Etihad Guest, Iberia Plus and South African Airways Voyager have no rows. The Cathay Pacific Marco Polo tiers are stored under Cathay Asia Miles. Only the tiers the page names have a row, so Bronze, Frequent Traveller, Gold Guest List and lifetime tiers have none. If the qualifying booking is cancelled or changed without 72 hours' written notice by email to the status match team, the match may be cancelled and the status may revert to Red, unless the cause is beyond your control.
