It is different from a straight match, which usually asks for less follow-up activity.
- Status match versus status challenge: what is the difference?
- A match generally grants the equivalent tier with little or no further activity required to receive it, though many programmes still require some activity to extend it beyond an initial trial window. A challenge is explicitly conditional from the start: the trial status is temporary until you complete the stated requirement. In practice the two have converged for most major airlines, which is why each row on this page states its own mechanism rather than relying on the label alone.
