| American Airlines AAdvantage status held | Delta SkyMiles status granted |
|---|---|
| Platinum | Gold Medallion |
| Executive Platinum | Platinum Medallion |
Is this match worth making?
The catch first: this is a challenge, not a gift. Delta grants the trial tier immediately, but you keep it only by spending on Delta flights inside 90 days, and the thresholds are set in Medallion Qualification Dollars: 1,250 USD for Silver, 2,500 USD for Gold, 3,750 USD for Platinum. If you are not going to fly Delta on paid tickets in that window, the trial simply lapses and you are back where you started.
Two AAdvantage tiers map across here. Platinum is granted Gold Medallion, and Executive Platinum is granted Platinum Medallion. Delta publishes this as accepting Platinum, Gold or Silver Medallion matches from 16 partner airlines.
Two eligibility conditions catch people out, and neither is about your AAdvantage status. You must have been an enrolled SkyMiles member for at least 30 days before applying, and you must have flown at least one Delta-marketed flight that was not basic economy in the last three years. A SkyMiles account opened the week you apply will not qualify.
The trial starts within 24 hours of enrollment confirmation, so do not apply until the Delta flying is actually booked. Enrollment closes on 31 December 2026, and status earned by completing the challenge runs through 31 January 2028.
