Is this match worth making?
The honest starting point is that American does not publish a fixed challenge structure at all. There is no public form with stated terms the way Delta and Alaska have one. You call AAdvantage customer service, or check the promotions tab in the app, and present proof of your Delta status. What you are quoted may not match what the next person is quoted.
We could not confirm a current fee. Some past challenges carried an enrollment cost, historically cited at around 200 USD, but American publishes no figure today. Treat the cost as unknown until you are quoted one, and do not budget on the historical number.
If accepted, matched status runs four months. Carrying it into the next membership year means hitting a Loyalty Points goal every four months, and the goals are steep: 40,000 for Gold, 75,000 for Platinum, 125,000 for Platinum Pro, 200,000 for Executive Platinum. Delta Gold Medallion is granted an AAdvantage Platinum trial here, so the number that applies to you is 75,000 Loyalty Points every four months.
That requirement, not the match itself, is the real test. Loyalty Points come from AAdvantage flying and partner earning, so this is only worth starting if you are actually moving flying to American rather than hedging.
The published terms
AA does not publish a fixed challenge structure. Call AAdvantage customer service (or check the app promotions tab) with proof of a competing elite status. If accepted, matched status runs four months, and you keep it into the next membership year only by hitting a Loyalty Points goal every four months: 40,000 for Gold, 75,000 for Platinum, 125,000 for Platinum Pro, 200,000 for Executive Platinum.
To keep it: Loyalty Points threshold every 4 months per tier (Gold 40k, Platinum 75k, Platinum Pro 125k, Executive Platinum 200k).
Fee: No published fee. Some past challenges carried an enrollment cost (historically cited around $200); AA does not publish a current figure. Verify at application.
